How do you secure your Wi-Fi?
Most wireless routers have purchased, you could have an installation CD from suppliers, and the CD has gone through the security setting on the router in a step by step guide or wizard. Probably will never have or the way, they use it.
I never actually installed this CD, because I find these programs is cumbersome and my main reason to avoid managing multiple applications, which has nothing to do with my network.
So myProposed here is how you secure your router without using a custom application.
Step 1> Open a new browser.
Step 2> Now you can enter the IP address of the router in the browser. The pace here is where you can access the management system of the router. Because of the different suppliers, you need your router manual for the default IP address (which is 192.168.0.1, 196.168.1.1 or 10.10.0.1 or something similar to the results) and password for your researchRouter. Please note that each brand is the router's management GUI (Graphical User Interface), otherwise, I can not show all brands, as I have just a mark with the job, so I will direct to configure the domains listed you need. Please take it easy and not complicated, but you may need a little 'more time for trial and error on your page. Attempts to explore and find the appropriate section for management. It 'pretty simple in general.
Step 3> You should beNever forget this step to set a new administrator password. It's always a good first step to start with you, they forgot to prevent a second time. To set the pace here is often not in the "Security" is, you need to look at the utility, system settings or user administration. Locate and change the password once for each user account that is available.
Step 4> enable wireless security. To turn your encryption program, look under wireless security you have, or equivalent. The step over here, you must either WPA or WPA-PSK, this will be possible only if the use does not support these devices on the network. Otherwise, you must be 128-bit WEP (using see photo above). Had to WPA or WPA-PSK, you must enter the password / password, or WEP, you must press to generate the keys. Please note that you must write your password / login on a sheet of paper or notepad and copy the application for transfer to a thumb drive, soType / copy of this password in your client computer.
STEP 5> Change your SSID. They should not play the SSID as "hack me", this is probably a default SSID that is usually not configured the router, your SSID as "Linksys" have, "Belkin", "Aztech," or "Dlink" . Try something threatening, a threat to them, will be a connection. Example is "virusgeek", "iamvirus", "speaker of the virus" or "hackingyou. ProbablyThink of something better than that. Remember, you'll need this SSID when you browse available wireless networks from your client machine. You can find this setting in a menu called Channel or SSID.
STEP 6: Save the configuration by pressing "Apply Changes" or "Save Changes" or "Save Settings". You must save the changes to the router to take effect. You probably need to start the new router several times during this process to ensuresecure.
Congratulations! Have the basis for the approach of your Wi-Fi. If you want your advanced wireless security, please go ahead, and I think they are more techie. If you lost or paranoid, you can only disable SSID transfers. (Turn off SSID broadcasting is to manually enter the network name, why is not displayed in the window to scan wireless networks.) Or, alternatively, you can click on MAC address filtering, which in turn onlyallow limited access to the network with a client list that is approved specifications.
